FANTASIA
Under the title “Fantasia” ARTAMO GALLERY brings together works by three established gallery artists — András Györfi from Hungary, Ana Marini from Argentina, and Julia Pinkham from California — who explore in their paintings surrealistic fantasy and storytelling in a wide range from realistic to totally abstract style and manner. András Györfi comes from Kaposvár, Hungary, a regional capital 120 miles from Budapest. After learning privately from the painters Molnár József and Ruisz György he moved to Budapest, where he earned a degree as an architect at the Ybl Miklós Training College. Before András Györfi began exhibiting in 1991, he had illustrated for several Hungarian magazines for a couple of years and also designed a stage setting for the theater of Sopron. Györfi’s works are appreciated both in Hungary and internationally, and he is today considered to be one of the best and most promising Hungarian contemporary painters. Ana Marini from Buenos Aires, Argentina, lives and works in California now. She studied art in Buenos Aires and Los Angeles. Her inclination towards the tragic, the sublime and the magical, aesthetic categories lingering between projection and perception, coherence and chaos, is why her works are described as “Magical Realism”. She says: “My art is about people and the way they experience their lives. While painting, I try to suggest a story, not only of the moment but also of an entire life. Not only of what we can see, but what is invisible to the eyes. Art is always a mirror. That is why it is so powerful. It speaks not only about my subject, but also speaks about my perceptions.” Julia Pinkham has been working full time as an artist since 1979. In addition to fine art, her career includes a wide range of creative endeavors, e.g. creating a line of clothing of her own hand painted fabric designs, designing prints for a textile company in New York, and creating cloisonné jewelry designs for Zarah Company. She has written and illustrated Nature Encyclopedia coloring books for Stemmer House Publishers. Her watercolor paintings of endangered species were published as greeting cards and T-shirts worldwide. Julia’s art is strongly influenced by the natural world and the ocean in particular. Her abstract surrealist works reflect her interest in natural forms. Her work expresses a spontaneous sense of freedom, energy and movement.
