I. AM. BEYOND. PALE.

Going to the tanning bed or lying on the beach without SPF is skin suicide. Harsh? YES. Skin cancer is a serious condition and the most preventable. There are so many wonderful tanning alternatives that deliver a beautiful glow and I have tried 75% of them. Skin cancer runs in my family and I have blonde hair and blue eyes - I am doomed to 'Beauty In A Bottle' when it comes to tanning. It is an important contributor to my daily self-esteem as I am sure it is for you as well. I would like to share my regiment and a few of my favorites I hope you will give a try this summer.

STEP ONE: PREP YOUR SKIN
Taking a shower and shaving is essential a few hours before applying lotion or spray sunless tanner. A smooth shave prevents the chance of the tanning solution to come off to due frequent shaving. Waxing is better, but who can always do that? OUCH. Another essential step while in the shower in using a body scrub or exfoliator. This removes dead skin cells from the surface and allows a fresh canvas to apply an even coat. Bath and Body Works have released their variety of summer scents and my favorite is anything coconut. STEP TWO: GET TAN!!!!
Now that your skin has been prepped for its new glow, it is time to pick a self-tanning product. As I stated before, there are so many options out there. I will skip the reviews and go straight to my secret weapon - Moisture Tan Pro Self Tanner $27.95 oz. It is odorless and a deep golden color appears within four hours. It has extended staying power not found in most drugstore products meaning longer tan with minimal applications.

STEP THREE: MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE & MOISTURIZE.
Wow, you are tan! Your body looks firmer and ready for tank tops and this seasons floral shorts. However, a self-tanner requires maintenance just like the old days when you had to hit the tanning bed every day or it would quickly fade. A self-tanner is notorious for creating dry skin due to its dyes. This should NOT be a reason not to try it out. Using a basic moisturizing lotion will assist in extending your tan. Morning and night is preferred, and if that is not possible - at least once a day. This prevents dry spot as well, which can result in the appearance of an uneven tan. STEP FOUR: HIGHLIGHT AND ENHANCE
This step in my personal step to fabulous self-tanning. Nothing shows off a great tan like a liquid bronzes. Right now, the market it booming with new and amazing products. The two I use are both fabulous. A little dab will do or you will end up looking like an Academy Award.

Too Faced Royal Oil Coconut Oil Body Bronzer With Mangosteen Extract, $35.00 for 3.5 fl.oz, goes on smooth and feels like liquid silk. It does not rub off on clothing, which is a big turnoff for me. It gives your skin the perfect finishing touch. I prefer to use it on my shoulders and legs. www.toofaced.com

The other product is a lower priced new product, The Body Shop's Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil, $22.00 for 3.3 fl.oz. Smells like honey and glistens after two coats. It is a dry oil and I have found that I have to apply two coats to achieve the desired effect but the smell is intoxicating. www.thebodyshop.com
